#0038 Jesus is the Chief Cornerstone; but who are the other foundation stones lined up next to Him upon whom the Kingdom will build? 4

42 Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: “‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?

43 “Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit.

44 Anyone who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; anyone on whom it falls will be crushed.”

45 When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard Jesus’ parables, they knew he was talking about them.

46 They looked for a way to arrest him, but they were afraid of the crowd because the people held that he was a prophet.

Matt: 21 42-46 (NIV)

OUTLINE:

  • The cornerstone is the reference point for building the Kingdom of God. Jesus is that cornerstone.
  • What qualities is He looking for in a foundation stone?
  • Are these qualities found in the religious imperative of salvation or does there exist a dilemma—disqualifier made up of conflicting interests emanating from the denominational religions world?
  • Are there non-religious persons or groups that fit the profile of a foundation stone?
  • Are there persons/groups out of history that fit the profile?
  • What might religious persons do differently in order to get a piece of this action?

Last week I watched Rachel Maddow chair the 1st Democratic Forum 2015 aired on MSNBC. She has her own Show: The Rachel Maddow Show which I watch often; but this was a forum which she hosted for the 3 Democratic presidential candidates: Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Martin O’Malley. This differs from the debate they were a part of a couple of weeks ago in that Rachael, instead of acting as moderator served more in the role of interviewer and she did this one-on-one, one at a time. As a result two of them, Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton emerged as the only true contenders for president from the democratic camp. Both Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton qualify as foundation stones that are ready and capable to line up next to Christ. Each of them has a long personal history of service and advocacy that has promoted the Kingdom design (win-win) and furthered the advancement of the human race. They are R-Directed in their views and in their approach to politics. They like each other and in the event one of them is elected president a year from now I’m certain the other will quite likely be in a supportive role (in the same manner Hillary served as Secretary of State under President Obama). They are in a race for the presidency and as such they are trying to stand apart from the other in order to gain an advantage; but on the broader scale their differences are not all that significant. Check out their split over whether or not DOMA had a legitimate place in the evolution of gays’ right to marry.

So we can see that even though Bernie and Hillary travelled their different paths to get to where they are today, they both are in agreement on the gays’ right to marriage question. The Republicans, on the other hand, are of the consensus that gays shouldn’t be allowed to marry and they don’t even deserve to be protected in their jobs in America. The Republicans, without exception, share the mindset against gays marrying because it bodes well with their conservative constituents; but beyond this as candidates, they don’t appear to be friendly or even very civil with each other. This quality (or lack thereof) is a big spiritual factor, to my mind, which speaks volumes as to their true essence as Christians and as people.

Check out this now and I must warn you this is shocking and very disturbing to my spirit to watch this guy.

There is much I wish to respond to about what this guy is saying in the video that doesn’t include the things Rachael points out. To start with, the scriptures he is talking about in the New Testament which are pivotal to the point he is making and which will decide the fates of millions of gays are NOT specifically referencing homosexuality as a capital spiritual offence; it’s listed before a whole litany of other offences (including being disobedient to one’s parents); but isn’t specifically included in the list of these other specifically listed capital offenses. Here it is in the KJV.

26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

This is a good example of religious propaganda utilizing the Bible as the vehicle for that propaganda. Reading carefully in Romans you can see that Paul isn’t talking exclusively about this one condition of homosexuality; which he was very limited in his understanding simply by virtue of his living 2000 years ago. This Kevin Swanson is so focused on making his point that he plays fast and loose with his interpretations of these scriptures because he wants to use them to support and advance his prejudicial views. Upon closer  inspection we are able to detect a crack in Swanson’s (seemingly) irrefutable Biblical evidence. In verse 26, Paul says:

26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

Living 2000 years ago your understanding of how nature works and how anything works, for that matter, would have been pretty old-fashioned to say the least and Paul was no exception. Paul was insightful for his day and age, but he wasn’t Jesus nor was he a prophet (like Isaiah). He spoke and wrote from his limited understanding. He was on fire with his commitment for Jesus; he was a good man—a great disciple; but he was still a man working from a 1st century point of reference and, compared with today, at a great knowledge disadvantage. In verse 26 he says …even the women did change the natural use into that which is against nature. Today, based on scientific studies it is known that homosexual coupling is in fact common place, that is to say natural, even amongst animals. The men of science back then were still working with the likes of signs and superstitions, alchemy, blood-letting and such. Since those times we’ve advanced quite a bit.

When the Bible is touted as the one-and-only collection of literal words of God and people buy into that concept, we can get into a bind really fast. The Bible is actually a collection of experiences people had who believed God was involved somehow with their experience. The most recent of these writings in this collection was produced a little less than 2000 years ago. These scriptures can be used to access God’s truth only when they are used in concert with His Holy Spirit. But the real magic happens in your (the reader’s or listener’s) mind and heart—not on the pages of that book. The actual, living God—the God of today is trying to communicate with us and help us to better communicate with one another. If we believe something because it is written in that book, we are heading down a pathway of hurt and frustration. If we believe something because it feels right and good inside to believe it; then the same energy that brings that good feeling to you will guide you to scriptures that will qualify and verify that feeling—that truth.
